Rachel has more than a decade of experience working in music education as a vocal coach. Her current music directing posts include Choir Director for High Holborn Chamber Choir; Music Director at Christ Church Highbury and Choir Director for Guildhall Young Artists Islington Programme and this year she was accepted on to the prestigious trainee music leader scheme with Welsh National Opera and Spitalfields Music.
Rachel began her journey as a conductor in North London, assisting the Music Directors of Highbury Youth Choir, Sarah Wilkinson and Scott Stroman. During her undergraduate training at the University of Manchester and Royal Northern College of Music, she received conducting coaching from Mark Heron and during her Masters Masters in vocal performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, she received conducting coaching from Jonathan Tilbrook.
Rachel has extensive experience working with under eighteen year olds, with previous music directing positions including Youth Director for HighburyOperaTheatre 'Lost in the Stars' and 'Fever Pitch' productions at the Union Chapel; Assistant Music director for 'Orpheus and Eurydice' National Youth Theatre production at the Old Vic Underground Tunnels; Choir and Musicianship coach for HMDT Music CYMH and Music Director for I can sing! music theatre primary education; Assistant Muic Director for Haringey Shed 'Our Time' production; Choir Director for Chant Productions Rugby League match fixture entertainment; Choir Director and singing teacher for One Education ; Music Director for Stockport Stagecoach Music Theatre school; Music Director for primary music eduction with P-Zazz Performing Arts Company; and singing teacher in secondary schools for Hertfordshire Music Service.
Rachel also has experience in opera outreach, leading vocal, dramaturgical and compositional workshops culminating in performances of newly imagined operas. Examples of this work includes 'Canary Boys' by Leo Geyer - a mining heritage project with Constella Operaballet; a re-magined English translation of Cosi fan Tutte with Baseless Fabric Theatre and working alongside director Bill Bankes-Jones in Constella Operaballet's West Kent College Sideshows opera-ballet masterclass.
She has worked in adult education as a vocal coach and choir director for City Academy: she directed the Voices and Chamber choirs, founded their opera improvers singing course and taught their beginners singing courses. She teaches adults one-to-one vocal tuition in Highbury and she launched an opera course for amateur classically trained singers in the Summer of 2018, working alongside répétateur, William Cole and director, Joanne Turner.
Rachel is familiar with the ABRSM, Trinity, LCM Music Theatre and LCM Popular Music Vocals singing exam syllabuses and has had 100% pass rate for all students entered for exams.
